Issued in India after decimalisation in 1957 and following the creation of the state of Maharashtra in 1960, this pair of 25 Paise Special Adhesive revenues bears the bold black overprint “Maharashtra” across the Ashoka emblem design, with additional red circular fiscal cancellations. Printed typographically in two colours (purple frame and denomination with dark blue value text), these adhesives were produced by the Government Security Press at Nasik for official fiscal use. Such pairs were commonly employed to meet document fees of 50 Paise, and surviving multiples with clear overprints and cancellations remain desirable to collectors of Indian fiscal history. The stamps illustrate the transition from pre-decimal anna values to the new decimal system and reflect the administrative reorganisation of Indian states in the post-independence period. Well centred, clean and strongly struck, this example represents both the historical and fiscal significance of Indian revenues during the 1960s. Estimate $20 – 30.
