Emperor Taishō 大正天皇 (r. 1912–1926 CE)
During the Taishō era (1912–1926), Japan’s postal system continued to expand in both scale and scope, reflecting the empire’s growing international presence. This period saw increased use of aerograms and international airmail, as well as the introduction of more commemorative stamp issues. Japan enhanced its colonial postal networks in Korea, Taiwan, and Karafuto, integrating them more tightly with the mainland system. The Taishō period also marked Japan’s participation in international exhibitions and mail exchanges, reinforcing its role as a modern power. The postal service became a key tool for imperial cohesion, communication, and global diplomacy.
