This scarce semi-postal issue from Tunisia, released on February 15, 1916, was printed to support the Red Cross during World War I. The design, by Jules-Jacques Puyplat and Louis Dumoulin, depicts the Great Mosque framed by architectural arches, overprinted with a bold red cross symbolizing humanitarian relief. Printed by typography on tinted green paper and perforated 14 x 13½, the stamp is catalogued as Michel TN 51, Scott TN B2, Yvert et Tellier TN 48, and Stanley Gibbons TN 50. The 5 centimes denomination is an essential part of Tunisian philately, combining both postal and charitable purposes, and its association with early 20th-century Red Cross issues makes it highly collectible. Mint examples such as this, especially with intact color and sharp overprint, are increasingly sought after by collectors of Red Cross and North African philately. Estimate "$50 – 80". Condition: Mint, original gum with hinge remains, fresh color and clear overprint, minor traces on reverse.
