This ½ cent stamp from the 1895 Wuchang Treaty Port issue features a red English-language surcharge overprint applied to an earlier definitive design. Printed in brown by the Shanghai Lithographic Society using lithography, it is part of the locally produced stamps in the Treaty Port system. The original stamp belonged to the first definitive series and has been surcharged in red to reflect revised postal rates. This issue is notable for its bilingual inscription in English and Chinese, indicating the multicultural postal environment of late Qing-era treaty ports. The stamp is cataloged as Scott WU 32, Michel CN-WU 22A, and Stanley Gibbons CN-WU 43. Condition: Mint hinged with original gum, good centering, and strong color. Estimate "$55 – 70".
