This 1904 block of four postage due stamps from the Qing Dynasty represents the London Print issue, produced by Waterlow & Sons Ltd. and issued on November 10th, 1904. Each stamp is denominated at ½ cent and printed in blue using gravure, with a crisp typographic design prominently marked “POSTAGE DUE” and “IMPERIAL POST” in both Latin and Chinese characters. These stamps were employed to indicate insufficient postage payment and were affixed at the destination to collect the deficit. Measuring standard dimensions and perforated line 14, the block is cancelled with a bold and clearly legible Tientsin circular postmark that spans across all four stamps. It is listed in all major philatelic catalogues as Michel CN-IM P7, Scott CN-IM J7, Yvert et Tellier CN-IM T7, Stanley Gibbons CN-IM D143, and China Stamp Society CN-IM PD7. Culturally, postage due stamps are among the rarest categories of late Qing philately and this example is particularly notable for its well-centered strike and vivid detail. Condition Very fine used block with full circular cancel and minimal aging to the gummed reverse. Estimate "$85 – 110".
