This complete sheet of 100 stamps was issued on 4 February 1986 for the French overseas territory of Saint Pierre and Miquelon, a remnant of France’s former colonial empire. Overprinted with the territory’s name on the original French definitive “Marianne de Gandon” series, the stamp features a classical allegorical female figure wearing a Phrygian cap—a symbol of liberty and the French Republic. Printed in red-orange using intaglio by Imprimerie Des Timbres-Poste in Paris, the stamp bears a denomination of 0.30 francs and is perforated 13 with gum on reverse. The design by Pierre Gandon, one of France’s most celebrated stamp artists, continued to serve as a national and colonial symbol throughout the 20th century. This overprinted version reflects France’s continued postal oversight in its remaining overseas territories well into the modern era. Catalogued as Michel PM 526, Scott PM 456, Yvert et Tellier PM 458, and Stanley Gibbons PM 555. Estimate "$35 – 50".
