This exceptionally preserved pair of joined full sheets, each comprising 60 engraved stamps, was issued on 6 March 1957 to commemorate the independence of Ghana, formerly known as the British colony of Gold Coast. The stamps, denominated at 3 pence (3d), were printed in rich dark purple and feature a left-facing portrait of Queen Elizabeth II alongside imagery representing industrial and infrastructural development such as mining and railways. Overprinted with “GOLD COAST / GHANA INDEPENDENCE / 6TH MARCH 1957,” these stamps are historically significant, capturing the transition from colonial rule to sovereign nationhood. Printed by Bradbury, Wilkinson & Co. Ltd, the sheets are perforated 11½ x 12 and bear the upright Multiple Script CA watermark. Although several stamps in the lower portion show cancellation marks, the overall condition is excellent with sharp edges and intact perforations. Catalogued as Michel GH 10, Scott GH 8, Yvert et Tellier GH 4, Stanley Gibbons GH 175. Estimate "$80 – 120".
