This visually engaging pair of stamps issued in 1944 during the Japanese occupation of Central China commemorates the first anniversary of the symbolic “Return of Foreign Concessions to Nanking.” The design features an abstract cartographic depiction of the Yangtze River region with Nanking centrally located, overlaid by radiating lines and a stylized sun emblem of the Republic. Printed using gravure on unwatermarked paper, the set comprises denominations of 3 and 6 Chinese dollars, each in striking orange and blue tones respectively. The stamps are perforated 12 x 12½ and were intended to emphasize territorial reclamation and national unity under Japanese-sponsored governance. Listed across standard references as Michel JP-CC 98–99, Scott CN-IM 9N105–9N106, Yvert et Tellier CN-OJ 92–93, Stanley Gibbons JP-CC 118–119, and China Stamp Society CN-IM SN138–SN139, the issue holds historical relevance for its propaganda messaging and philatelic rarity from the occupied zone. The present examples show clear circular postmarks, consistent wear, and moderate toning from prior hinging and age. Estimate "$50 – 65".
