Issued under Japanese occupation in Mengkiang in 1942, this 15-cent stamp is a provisional surcharge on the unissued 30-cent brown violet definitive portraying Dr. Sun Yat-sen. The original base stamp, never released in standard Chinese postal use, was repurposed by the Japanese puppet government in Inner Mongolia to meet postal demand during wartime. The surcharge is printed in black and includes simplified Chinese characters. This particular example is in very fine mint condition, never hinged, and exceptionally well-centered for the issue. A scarce and historically significant issue reflecting complex wartime postal adaptations. Estimate "$90 – 120"
