This imperforate corner example of the 1938 $5 red and black Dr. Sun Yat-sen stamp represents a striking production error from the wartime printing period. Issued by the Republic of China, the design depicts Sun Yat-sen in formal attire within an ornate red frame bearing the national emblem of the Kuomintang. Normally printed with grill lines and full perforation, this example is completely imperforate on three sides and lacks the characteristic security grill—classifying it as a major variety. The stamp is typographically printed on thin unwatermarked paper, with full margin showing red registration crosshairs in the upper left. Despite a light horizontal fold and minor hinge remnant on the reverse, the stamp retains its full original gum and vivid color. These error types were typically excluded from distribution but occasionally escaped in press sheets, making them prized among Sun Yat-sen specialists. Scott 361 (error variety).
