Issued on May 1, 1935, this used example of the 1 cent red surcharge on a 4 cent olive stamp from the Second Peking Print Junk series features the classic image of a Chinese sailing junk. Gravure printed by the Chinese Bureau of Engraving and Printing and perforated line 14, this daily issue was created in response to fluctuating postal rates and available stock. The design includes elements of ships and transportation, reflecting the Republic’s modernizing ambitions and reliance on traditional maritime symbols. Catalogued as Scott IM325, Michel CN-IM 277, Yvert et Tellier CN-IM 207B, Stanley Gibbons CN-IM 369, and China Stamp Society CN-IM 333, this stamp has been authenticated and graded F/VF 75 by ASG. It is a well-preserved example of a transitional period surcharge with full legibility and clear postal usage. Estimate "$65 – 85"
