Issued on March 1, 1934, during the Japanese puppet state of Manchukuo, this 3 fen commemorative stamp celebrates the enthronement of Emperor Kang Teh (Puyi) and features a vivid depiction of two Fenghuang birds—mythical creatures symbolizing peace, virtue, and imperial grace in East Asian culture. Printed in red by gravure, the stamp shows the birds in dynamic flight amidst stylized clouds, emphasizing cultural heritage and celestial favor. This example is from the series known as the "Enthronement of Emperor" and carries inscriptions in Chinese and English. The watermark is of the "Wavy Lines Curved Type 1 Up" variety, and the stamp is comb-perforated 12½. With a total mint issuance of 2,020,000, the stamp remains a prized representation of Manchukuo’s brief but intense philatelic narrative. Catalog numbers include Michel CN-MA 24, Scott 117, Yvert CN-MA 33, Stanley Gibbons CN-MA 33, CSS CN-MA MC33, and Sakura CN-MA 33. This is a mint never hinged (MNH) example with fresh gum and vibrant color. Estimate "$160 – 280"
