This scarce 1925 Plebiscite Issue from Peru (Scott RA4, Michel PE Z2, Yvert et Tellier PE 223, Stanley Gibbons PE 455, Bustamante PE 245) was released to commemorate the long-disputed plebiscite over Tacna and Arica, territories contested between Peru and Chile after the War of the Pacific. Printed by Litografía y Tipografía Carlos Fabbri in Lima, the design carries the inscription "PRO PLEBISCITO TACNA Y ARICA 1925" and reflects both the national sentiment and the political aspirations of the era. Executed in brown through lithography, the stamp features military themes highlighting admirals, generals, and flags, underscoring Peru’s pride in its armed forces and its sovereignty claims. With a face value of 10 centavos, the issue was produced without watermark, perforated 11½, and classified as a postal tax stamp, requiring obligatory use to support the plebiscite effort. This lot offers an attractive MNH horizontal pair, an increasingly difficult format to find in such pristine state, adding both philatelic and historical significance. Such items resonate strongly with collectors of Latin American postal history and political issues of the early 20th century. Estimate "$70 – 100". Condition: Mint never hinged, fresh color and intact gum, excellent pair with full perforations.
