This 1924 overprinted stamp from Grand Liban (Greater Lebanon) features the classic French “Semeuse” (Sower) design in brown-orange, originally engraved by Louis-Eugène Mouchon after Louis Oscar Roty. Printed in typographic style with perforation 14 x 13½, the base 30c French stamp has been surcharged “GRAND LIBAN / 1,50 / PIASTRE” in bold black Latin lettering, converting both its political and monetary identity for use in the Levant under French Mandate rule. The motif of the sowing woman—symbolizing agricultural renewal and hope—takes on deeper meaning in the context of Lebanon’s post-Ottoman nation-building and French governance. This stamp remains mint never hinged, though the reverse shows some minor discoloration and surface mottling. A striking piece that bridges European artistic symbolism with Middle Eastern territorial transition. Estimate "$35 – 55".
