China 1907, pair of 2 Chinese cents stamps from the French Post Office in China featuring the “Type Blanc” design with new value overprint, beautifully postmarked “Shanghai CHINA.” This issue was printed by typography at the Imperial Printing Office in Paris and designed by Joseph Blanc and Emile Thomas. The stamps are printed in blue green and yellow green, perforated comb 14 x 13½, and measure 20 x 24 mm. As part of the definitive series with surcharged new values adapted for use in China’s treaty ports, the design incorporates allegorical figures, including angels and classical representations of law and balance—reflecting both mythological and administrative symbolism. This postally used pair, with its clean and legible Shanghai cancellation, reflects the daily postal exchange between China and France in the early 20th century, particularly in treaty ports such as Shanghai where French colonial influence was pronounced. Cataloged as Scott CH 57, Michel FR-CH 31I, Yvert et Tellier FR-CH 75, and Stanley Gibbons FR-CH 76. Condition Very fine used with clear matching circular cancels, sharp overprints, and excellent centering. Estimate "$85 – 105"
