This 1 cent stamp from the German International Post Offices in China, issued in 1906, is a typographed overprint on the definitive German “Germania” issue, portraying the crowned allegorical figure of Germania. The underlying design in dark brown ochre is finely rendered, with the imperial German double cross and crown subtly integrated into her regalia. The black overprint reads “China” in ornate Gothic script, accompanied by new value indicators “1 Cent” on either side. The stamp features a comb perforation of 14 x 14¼ and has a watermark of diamond-shaped lozenges (pastilles) pointing upward. A legible cancellation from the German-leased territory of Tsingtau (青島) ties this example directly to the Qingdao postal operations, a strategic naval base in the Kiautschou Bay concession. The stamp reflects Germany's broader imperial ambitions and commercial interests in East Asia during the pre-WWI period. Catalogued as Michel DR-CHI 38 I, Scott DR-CHI 47, Yvert DR-CHI 39, Stanley Gibbons DR-CHI 46, and AFA 38. Estimate "$25 – 35"
