This 1 centime olive stamp was issued in 1906 by the French Post Office in Tchongking and features the Type Grasset design overprinted with “Tchong K'ing” and a Chinese denomination. Designed by Eugène Grasset and printed using typography at the Imperial Printing Office in Paris, it measures 20 by 24 mm and is perforated 14 x 13½. Reflecting themes of goods and mythology, the design conveys the commercial and cultural ambitions of France during its operations in China. This stamp, printed on standard paper, is catalogued as Scott TCH 17 (Michel FR-IC B35VI, Yvert FR-TCH 48, Gibbons FR-TCH 17) and is in mint never hinged condition with full original gum and no defects. It is a fine example of colonial postal history from the Sino-French era. Estimate "$70 – 90"
