This stamp was issued by the German Post Office in China on October 1, 1905, as part of the German colonial postal system. It features a black overprint of the denomination "2 Cents" and the word "China" on a 5-pfennig green definitive stamp from the German Empire. The design, by Paul Eduard Waldraff, displays a crowned imperial allegory in a distinctly Art Nouveau style. The stamp was printed via typography by the Reichsdruckerei (Imperial Printing Office) in Berlin, measures 22 x 26 mm, and has a comb perforation of 14 x 14½. This issue was valid until March 16, 1917, and has no watermark. The presented example bears a strong circular date cancel from Peking, indicating authentic use from the German post office in that treaty port. The stamp is cataloged under Michel DR-CHI 29, Scott DR CHI38, Yvert et Tellier DR-CHI 30, Stanley Gibbons DR-CHI 37, and AFA DR-CHI 29. In very fine used condition with a clean back and deep green color, this stamp is of notable interest to collectors of colonial German post abroad. Estimate "$90 – 110"
