Issued in 1905 as part of the Third London Print of the Coiling Dragon series, this 5 cent violet stamp reflects the Qing Dynasty's efforts to refine and standardize its postal system in the early 20th century. Printed by Waterlow & Sons Ltd. in London using gravure printing, the stamp features the iconic coiling dragon motif, a powerful symbol of imperial strength and celestial protection. Measuring 22 × 25 mm, it includes the traditional Yin-Yang watermark and was produced with variable perforation patterns. The 5 cent denomination was commonly used for domestic and intercity mail during a period of rapid modernization and international postal integration.
