Issued in July 1904, this 25 centime blue stamp from French Indochina features the iconic allegorical figure of “La Semeuse” (The Sower), designed by the renowned Art Nouveau artist Eugène Grasset. Part of the definitive “Type Grasset” series, this stamp exemplifies early 20th-century colonial aesthetics with its detailed depiction of a female figure bearing classical symbols of liberty, agriculture, and peace, including an olive branch and fasces. Printed by the Imperial Printing Office in Paris using typography, this stamp was produced without watermark on colored paper, with standard perforation 14 x 13½. It served as regular postal currency during a period when French cultural imagery was deployed to reinforce imperial presence in Southeast Asia. This used example shows a clean cancellation and maintains well-defined edges and strong color. Listed as Scott 31, Michel 31, Yvert 31, and SG 37, it remains a staple for collectors interested in colonial French design and Indochinese postal history.
