This registered postal stationery envelope from London to Kalmar, Sweden, is dated 18 September 1900 and is franked with a 2½d Queen Victoria Jubilee issue (Scott GB 132) additionally to the preprinted indicium of 2d blue on buff envelope (Scott GB U15). The envelope is clearly postmarked "WEST CHARLTON S.O." with a matching registration handstamp and an arrival mark on the back. The address is neatly written in cursive and indicates the destination as "Kalmar Enskilda Bank", reflecting both commercial and international postal usage. The reverse of the envelope contains the Inland Registration fee table and conditions of compensation, printed in blue. The envelope is intact though with wear and edge fraying visible, especially at the top, and small tears. The registered marking and dual franking exemplify the rate for registered letters to Sweden during this period and illustrate the structured postal system of the British Empire at the turn of the century.
