Issued in December 1898 for use in German post offices in China, this 10 Reichspfennig stamp features the “Crown and Eagle” motif—a prominent imperial emblem of the German Empire. The stamp was overprinted diagonally at a 56° angle with the word “China” in black to indicate its intended colonial use. Printed in dark rose red using typography and without watermark, the stamp measures 21 x 24 mm and has comb perforation 13½ x 14¼. It was designed by Heinrich G. Schilling and corresponds to the German Empire’s definitive series DR47ea, adapted for overseas use. Listed as Michel DR-CHI 3IIc and Scott GER 3, it represents early German imperial presence in East Asia and is prized for its philatelic and colonial significance. Condition: Mint never hinged, full original gum, sharp corners and vibrant color. Estimate "$75 – 90".
