Issued in June 1896 by the Local Post Office of Hankow, this mint never hinged block of three features the 10 cent daily issue in rose red on rose-colored paper. Produced typographically and rouletted 10 on one side with imperforate margins on the others, this stamp reflects the practical limitations and improvisations of treaty port printing in the late Qing period. The design centers on themes of men and transport, emblematic of Hankow’s position as a commercial nexus on the Yangtze River. Listed as Scott HAN 6, Michel CN-HA 5b, and Stanley Gibbons CN-HA 6, this multiple is scarce and desirable in unmounted mint condition with full original gum and deep impression.
