This is a classic example of Victorian postal stationery from Great Britain, a 1d (one penny) postal card featuring a red indicium with Queen Victoria’s profile, sent from London to Ipswich. The front bears a crisp London cancellation dated May 18, 1887, struck on the indicium in black, with the standard barred numeral duplex cancel used during this period. The card is addressed to the prominent stamp dealers "Messrs. Whitfield, King & Co." of Ipswich. The reverse contains a brief handwritten message dated May 19, 1887, requesting a dealer price list of foreign stamps advertised in The Philatelic Critic, signed by "Ernest Veryard" of 48 Naval Road, London, E. Two clear violet handstamps are visible: one from the sender (Ernest Veryard) and another reception mark from the Ipswich office of Whitfield, King & Co. The stationery was issued during Queen Victoria’s later reign, when printed cards like these served a dual purpose: business correspondence and postal savings. The use of a printed reply request for stamp dealing also makes it a valuable philatelic document, providing context on the burgeoning philatelic trade in the late 19th century. Condition is excellent for its age with legible writing and full cancellation marks. Estimate "$25 – 35"
