This folded letter, sent from Thionville on 20 July 1846, is addressed to Monsieur Wieth, a retired cavalry major residing in Strasbourg, Bas-Rhin. The letter is written in elegant brown ink cursive on fine laid paper, folded to create its own envelope. The front bears a faint red boxed "P.P." marking (port payé), indicating prepaid postage, as well as manuscript routing instructions. A simple red Thionville departure postmark is visible, though partially obscured by folds. The interior of the letter contains a brief personal communication expressing cordial sentiments. This type of military-related civil correspondence during the July Monarchy is increasingly appreciated for its historical insight into post-Napoleonic officer networks. Overall condition is very good with light age toning and clean folds. Estimate "$60 – 90".
