This is a cross-Channel envelope sent from Paris to London on 27 June 1828, addressed to Miss Elizabeth L. Wilcocks at 96 Thornhill Grove, Barnsbury Park. The cover features a prominent red circular Paris datestamp marked "PAID 27 JU 1828" alongside a red manuscript “19” denoting prepaid postage to Great Britain, in line with postal conventions between the two countries during this period. On the reverse, a clear black London arrival datestamp is visible, along with an intact red wax seal. The envelope is made of laid paper with some natural age toning and edge wear, especially around the flap, but remains structurally sound and historically expressive. This folded envelope without enclosure represents the well-established early 19th-century postal exchange system between France and England, a time of flourishing correspondence between the upper and middle classes of both nations. The neat script, red "Paid" handstamp, and complete seal offer a representative example of Anglo-French postal history prior to the advent of postage stamps. Estimate "$80 – 110"
