Issued on January 1, 1958, this complete mint never hinged sheet of 100 stamps from Portuguese Macau features the olive green 1 avo Postal Tax stamp from the “Our Lady of Mercies” charity series. Designed by José Neves Castel and printed by lithography on greenish paper, the stamp was created to raise funds for welfare services, with the artwork depicting the Virgin Mary flanked by angelic figures, symbolizing compassion and divine protection. Printed without gum and line perforated 11¾, this was one of the final postal tax issues required on all mail for limited periods to fund local assistance programs. Catalogued as Scott RA14, Michel MO Z15, Yvert MO 386, Stanley Gibbons MO C468, Afinsa MO IP16, and Barefoot MO A22. The full sheet is in excellent post office-fresh condition with intact selvedge, deep color, and consistent impressions, making it an appealing collectible in both thematic and condition-focused categories.
