This 1948 overprint issue features a surcharged denomination of ½ cent on the original 30 cent orange-brown Dr. Sun Yat-sen definitive, repurposed during China’s Gold Yuan currency reform. The black surcharge includes the denomination “1/2 分” along with “金圓” (Gold Yuan), marking a temporary yet essential adjustment during China’s severe hyperinflation. The original stamp was printed by the Central Trust and Dah Yeh Printing Co. in Shanghai using typography, and is listed as Scott 820, Michel 875, Yvert 645, and Stanley Gibbons 1049. Measuring 18 x 22 mm, the stamp was issued without gum and bears the portrait of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, a prominent revolutionary and founding father of modern China. This complete mint never hinged sheet of 20 stamps is in pristine condition, showing full margins, fresh color, and sharp perforation. The surcharge series is historically significant as it reflects the turbulent monetary transition and political instability of the late Republican era. Estimate "$120 – 150"
