This 1943 block of four from the Japanese occupation of Central China features a ½ fen dark brown stamp overprinted in black with a boxed 7.50 Chinese dollars surcharge. Issued during wartime inflation, this overprint appears on the original Martyrs of the Revolution design (CN321), showcasing the portrait of a young revolutionary in military attire, part of a broader commemorative series honoring nationalist figures. Printed by Commercial Press Ltd., Hong Kong, using gravure, the stamp has no watermark and exhibits variable perforation. It is listed in major catalogs as Michel JP-CC 69, Scott IM 9N73, Yvert et Tellier CN-OJ 64, Stanley Gibbons JP-CC 88, and China Stamp Society CN-IM SN101. A striking example of Japanese occupation postal issues, this block is mint never hinged with full original gum and strong color contrast, reflecting the transitional economic conditions of wartime China. Estimate "$85 – 100".
