This set of two engraved stamps was issued under Japanese occupation in Mengkiang on July 1, 1941, featuring red-brown portraits of Dr. Sun Yat-sen with black and blue overprints in small 4 mm characters. Printed by Dah Tung Book Co. without watermark and with line perforation 14, these stamps are overprinted reissues of the original Chinese Sun Yat-sen definitives (Michel China #302IV and #303IV). The overprint asserts local authority under the puppet regime of Mengkiang, combining strong national symbolism with imposed foreign governance. Denominations are 1 and 2 Chinese dollars, with overprints in black and blue respectively. Dr. Sun Yat-sen, a revolutionary and founding father, remains an enduring symbol of Chinese nationalism, making these stamps politically and historically significant as instruments of propaganda and control. This pair is mint never hinged, sharply printed with intact perforations and full original color, representing a scarce and well-preserved occupation-era issue. Estimate "$220 – 270"
