Issued on January 1, 1949, this block of four tax stamps surcharged for definitive postal use features the rare $1500 on $50 dark blue issue from the Hankow overprint series. Originally part of the transportation-themed fiscal set depicting aircraft, locomotives, and passenger ships, these stamps were repurposed during the late hyperinflation period with a blue lithographic surcharge denoting the new denomination. Printed without watermark and perforated 12.5, the stamps measure 26 x 23 mm and reflect the economic turmoil and transitional currency conditions of post-war Nationalist China. Catalogued as Scott 934, Michel CN-IM 985, Yvert 772, Stanley Gibbons 1126, and China Stamp Society 1309, this mint never hinged block shows clear surcharges, sharp perforations, and full original gum. Estimate "$95 – 115"
