Issued on January 6, 1949, this Chinese definitive block features the portrait of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the founding father of the Republic of China, in violet brown. Part of the second "New Version" printing series by Dah Tung Book Co., these stamps were printed using gravure printing and show a highly detailed rendering of Sun Yat-sen on ungummed paper. Each stamp in this block is denominated at 20 dollars, printed in a deep violet brown hue with sharp impressions. Perforated line 14 and measuring 23 x 27 mm, this mint never hinged (MNH) block exemplifies the inflationary postal period in post-war China, when denominations increased rapidly. The block remains intact and well-preserved with uniform centering and fresh color. It is cataloged under Michel CN-IM 952, Scott CN-IM 888, Yvert CN-IM 717, Stanley Gibbons CN-IM 1154, and CSS CN-IM 1351. Estimate "$70 – 90"
