Issued in January 1949, this block of four mint never hinged stamps features a black and red surcharge of 80 Chinese dollars over the original 50-dollar denomination. The base design, originally intended as a tax stamp, depicts multi-modal transport including a steam locomotive, aircraft, and passenger ship—symbolizing industrial progress. During the hyperinflationary collapse of the Nationalist economy, these revenue stamps were repurposed as regular postage through emergency overprints. Printed lithographically in slate-blue tones on unwatermarked paper, the stamps are perforated variably and issued ungummed. Measuring 25 x 22 mm, the block presents crisp overprints and strong margins with no visible defects. It forms part of the final chapter of the Republic’s postal issues before the founding of the People's Republic of China. Scott 924. Estimate "$95 – 120"
