China 1948, block of three mint never hinged stamps from the San-i Surcharge series, featuring a red overprint of 50 Chinese dollars applied to older stock in response to severe inflation. Printed in scarlet by Union Press under the supervision of the Central Trust, this emergency Gold Yuan issue was released on December 10, 1948. Printed by gravure on unwatermarked paper, the stamp measures 18 x 22 mm and is line perforated 13. It bears the portrait of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, symbolizing stability during the final phase of the Nationalist monetary reform. Cataloged as Scott IM 876, Michel CN-IM 932a, Yvert et Tellier CN-IM 703, Stanley Gibbons CN-IM 1107, and China Stamp Society CN-IM 1244.
