China 1944, Japanese occupation of northern China, block of four featuring the Wang Ching-wei regime's overprint on the $5 CC97 issue, surcharged to 90 Chinese cents. Printed in red using gravure printing, this memorial edition lacks watermark and is perforated 12 x 12½. The stamps depict mountainous landscapes and were issued in July 1944 as part of propaganda efforts by the puppet regime under Japanese control. The overprint signified a revaluation of previously issued high-denomination postage for standardized local use. Cataloged under Michel JP-NC 358, Scott NP16, Yvert et Tellier CN-N OJ101, Stanley Gibbons JP-NC 179, and China Stamp Society CN-IM NC208. Estimate "$60 – 80"
