Issued in May 1943 during the turbulent years of wartime decentralization, this scarce regional overprint from Chekiang Province surcharges the 16 cent olive brown Dr. Sun Yat-sen definitive with a new face value of 50 Chinese cents. Printed by Central Trust using typography, the stamp pays tribute to Sun Yat-sen, the founding father of the Republic, whose image was prominently featured across multiple regional and national issues as a unifying revolutionary symbol. The overprint reflects the provincial postal authorities’ response to inflation and logistical constraints by revaluing existing stock. Perforations vary due to local production standards, and the stamp was issued ungummed, consistent with wartime austerity. This multiple, consisting of 12 mint never hinged stamps in block format, is cataloged as Scott IM 530g50, Michel CN-IM 578, Stanley Gibbons CN-IM 689B, and China Stamp Society CN-IM 810. Condition Mint never hinged with crisp typography, strong overprints, and even margins across the block. Estimate "$160 – 200"
