China 1942, mint never hinged set of five stamps from the Japanese-occupied Mengkiang regime, featuring a rare unlisted black overprint denoting “Half Price” on denominations ranging from 2 Chinese cents to 10 dollars. Issued on June 1, 1942, these gravure-printed stamps in green shades are based on the Dr. Sun Yat-sen design, symbolizing leadership and revolutionary ideals adapted under occupation. The overprint was applied to revalue stamps for limited local use, likely reflecting provisional rates or propaganda pricing measures in occupied Inner Mongolia.
While not listed in Scott, the base issues relate to Michel JP-MG 75, Stanley Gibbons JP-MG 94, and China Stamp Society CN-IM MK163. This complete MNH set of five is in excellent condition with full original gum, clean margins, and uniform strong overprints. A scarce and intriguing provisional issue for specialized collections.
