This extensive group of 24 different surcharged stamps from the 1942–1943 wartime period features various overprints from the Hunan, Chekiang, and Kwangsi provincial governments on issues from the Dr. Sun Yat-sen and Martyrs series. These stamps reflect the chaotic postal and monetary landscape of Republican China during the Second Sino-Japanese War, where local authorities often applied provisional surcharges to existing definitive stamps due to inflation and shortages. Printed by Commercial Press Ltd. in Hong Kong using gravure printing, the stamps were issued without watermark and exhibit a variety of perforation types. They feature denominations originally spanning from ½ cent to 50 cents, all revalued or marked regionally, with overprints in red and black Chinese characters. The motifs depict notable revolutionaries and national heroes, emphasizing themes of patriotism, resistance, and historical continuity. This collection includes mint never hinged and lightly hinged examples, all in fine to very fine condition, with strong original color and intact perforations. An important reference lot for the study of Chinese regional overprints during wartime. Estimate "$360 – 400"
