Issued on July 1, 1941, under the Japanese occupation of Mengkiang, this 3 cent yellow brown stamp features a bold large-character black overprint denoting use in the puppet regime’s territory. Depicting a revolutionary martyr from the 72 Martyrs of Huanghuagang, the stamp honors Nationalist sacrifices while simultaneously repurposed for propaganda under occupation. Printed by Commercial Press Ltd. in Hong Kong using gravure, it lacks watermark and exhibits variable perforation. The presented multiple consists of 11 mint never hinged stamps in a near-complete block formation, showing strong color, clear overprints, and full original gum. Catalogued as Scott 2N45, Michel JP-MG 29II, Stanley Gibbons JP-MG 40B, and China Stamp Society MK97, this large multiple is rare in MNH condition and illustrates complex wartime philately in northern China.
