This 1941 wartime issue from Kiangsi province features a local black surcharge reading "3 cents" applied to the green 5 cent Dr. Sun Yat-sen definitive, reflecting regional revaluation amid national inflation and postal fragmentation during the Second Sino-Japanese War. The base stamp portrays Dr. Sun Yat-sen, founding father of the Republic of China, within a finely engraved oval frame topped by the nationalist sun emblem, a symbol of republican legitimacy and unity. Printed by Dah Tung Book Co. using gravure printing, the stamp is perforated 14 and bears the small multiple “YU” watermark in upright orientation. The surcharge was applied locally in Eastern Szechwan (Kiangsi administration) as an emergency measure to accommodate altered postal rates and currency transitions. This mint never hinged block of four retains full original gum, with strong impressions, good centering, and no defects. It is cataloged as Scott 443B, representing a scarce regional overprint that combines aesthetic appeal with notable historical and postal context. Estimate "$90 – 110"
