This 1939 25 cent stamp block from the 2nd Hong Kong Chung Hwa Print series depicts Dr. Sun Yat-sen, revered as the founding father of the Republic of China. Printed by the Chung Hwa Book Company using gravure printing, this issue exemplifies the nationalist iconography of the period with an intricate frame and official emblem. The stamp is rendered in blue purple, with line perforation 12½ and features a full unmounted mint sheet of 20 stamps in pristine condition. This regular postal issue was part of the ongoing efforts to promote unity and stability during a time of national resistance against Japanese invasion. The block is ungummed as issued, and has clear selvedge margin markings from the press sheet edge.
