Issued on August 13, 1932, this ½ cent dark brown stamp honors General Deng Keng, one of the 72 martyrs of the 1911 revolution. Part of the Martyrs of the Revolution series, the stamp was gravure-printed by the Chinese Bureau of Engraving and Printing (PBMF) without watermark and perforated line 14. The portrait shows Deng in military uniform, symbolizing sacrifice and national renewal during the early Republic. Measuring 22 x 24 mm, the block of nine presented here is mint never hinged with full original gum, rich color, and consistent centering. Catalogued as Scott 312, Michel CN-IM 250, Yvert 234, Stanley Gibbons 410, and China Stamp Society 395, this multiple is a desirable piece representing the iconography of early Nationalist heroism.
