Issued by the provincial postal authority of Sinkiang on May 22, 1929, this 4-cent olive green commemorative stamp honors Chiang Kai-shek and the success of the National Unification campaign. Overprinted vertically in red with the designation “新疆貼用” (For use in Sinkiang), this regional issue reflects the decentralized nature of postal operations in Republican-era China. The design features a portrait of Generalissimo Chiang in uniform, framed by a traditional laurel and national emblem. Printed by gravure with line perforation 14, the stamp is catalogued as Scott SI71, Michel CN-IM-SI 59, Yvert 58, Stanley Gibbons 76, and China Stamp Society CN-IM SK95.
The item presented is a horizontal used strip of seven, including left and right sheet margins. All stamps are postmarked with readable circular date cancels in black, providing clear evidence of genuine postal usage. Reverse shows typical light aging but no hinge marks. Minor perf wear at the right selvage does not detract from the visual impact of this impressive multiple. Such large used multiples of regional overprints are uncommon and desirable.
