Issued in 1917 by the Russian Post Offices in China, this full pane of 50 stamps displays the black diagonal surcharge “DOLL.” overprinted on the imperial Russian 1 ruble stamp, which features the double-headed eagle in a decorative octagonal frame. The original issue, printed typographically in medium sienna and light brown, was revalued to 1 Chinese dollar to reflect the local currency in treaty port operations. The stamps are perforated comb 14 x 14½ and were part of the final series issued prior to the collapse of the Russian Empire and its foreign post offices.
Catalogued as Scott RU-CH 63, Michel RU-CH 48, Yvert 49, Stanley Gibbons 55, and Unificato 49, this sheet includes wide selvage margins and distinctive “V” security underprints in alternating rows, which are fully visible on the reverse. The full gum is intact and shows no hinge marks, confirming mint never hinged (MNH) condition. Print quality is sharp and consistent, with well-centered impressions and strong color across the sheet. Minor natural paper toning is visible on the reverse but does not detract from its excellent presentation. Full sheets of this denomination are rarely preserved intact. Estimate "$420 – 500"
