China 1917, block of five mint never hinged stamps from the Russian Post Office in China, featuring the overprinted $1 denomination on the imperial Russian definitive bearing the double-headed eagle coat of arms. Printed in medium sienna and light brown by typography at the Reichsdruckerei in Berlin, the stamp was perforated comb 14 x 14½ and used in Russian-operated treaty port post offices throughout China during the final year of the Tsarist regime. This high-value overprint reflects Russia’s adaptation of imperial postage for Chinese currency in local mail operations.
