Issued on March 24, 1912, this mint never hinged 1 cent ochre stamp features the iconic Coiling Dragon design with a large character "Kuo" overprint, symbolizing the birth of the Republic of China following the fall of the Qing dynasty. Gravure printed by Shanghai Commercial Press in cooperation with Waterlow & Sons Ltd, the stamp was part of the daily postal issue during the early republican transition. This overprint marked the nationalization of postal authority under the new regime.
