Issued in 1904 for use in French post offices operating in China, this 4 centimes stamp from the Indochina colonial series bears the bold “CHINE” overprint in black, denoting its restricted postal validity in Sino-French treaty ports. Designed by Louis-Eugène Mouchon, the stamp is printed typographically in violet brown and blue and features allegorical figures representing commerce and colonial ideals. Perforated 14 x 13½, it was part of the daily issue series used to support colonial trade infrastructure and administrative authority. This multiple consists of six mint never hinged stamps in a horizontal formation with full original gum and wide selvage at top, showing bright color and sharp impression. Listed as Scott IN3, Michel FR-IC A3II, Yvert FR-CH 51, and Stanley Gibbons FR-CH IND 17, it is a rare and desirable colonial-era multiple with excellent visual and historical appeal.
