Issued in 1904 as part of the general issues for French Post Offices in China, this 2 centimes green stamp features the Type Grasset design with a black “CHINE” overprint. Designed by Eugène Grasset and printed using typography, the stamp is perforated 14 x 13½ and reflects allegorical themes of estates and mythology consistent with France’s imperial imagery. The overprint was applied to standard Indochina issues for use across various French post offices in treaty-port China. Catalogued as Scott CH 48 (Michel FR-IC A20, Yvert FR-CH 65, Gibbons FR-CH IND 32), this mint hinged example retains its original gum and displays clean centering with a sharp overprint. It is a desirable stamp from the transitional phase of French colonial postal history in East Asia. Estimate "$70 – 90"
