French Post Office in China, 1903 issue from the Navigation and Commerce series, featuring a black PACKHOI overprint on the 5 centimes stamp printed in green and red. Designed by Louis-Eugène Mouchon and produced by the Imprimerie Nationale in Paris, this typographed stamp measures 20 x 24 mm and is perforated 14 x 13½. The allegorical design reflects colonial trade and mythology themes and was overprinted for postal use in the French concession of Packhoi (Beihai).
Catalogued as Scott Hoi.1 4, Michel FR-IC B20IV, Yvert et Tellier FR-PAK 4, and Stanley Gibbons FR-PAK 4. This mint never hinged block of four is well-centered with fresh color, full original gum, and strong overprints—an attractive multiple from one of the lesser-known French treaty ports in China. Estimate "$190 – 230".
