Issued on May 20, 1896 by the Local Post Office of the Hankow Treaty Port, this mint never hinged block of four features the 2 cent daily issue in reddish violet on pale purple paper. Printed typographically and rouletted 10 on one side with the remaining sides imperforate, the stamps reflect the transitional printing practices of treaty port posts prior to full integration into the Imperial Chinese Post. The design is associated with themes of men and transport, symbolizing commerce and communication in a key Yangtze River trade hub. Catalogued as Scott HAN 4, Michel CN-HA 1, and Stanley Gibbons CN-HA 1, this issue is scarce in multiple format. The block is in pristine condition with full original gum and strong impression, offering both historical and philatelic value. Estimate "$280 – 340"
